UPRN lookup for a whole list

Paste or upload addresses and get the Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) at each one, from Ordnance Survey's open data, with how sure each match is. Free, no account.

Quick answer

A UPRN (Unique Property Reference Number) is the permanent ID every addressable place in Great Britain has, from houses and flats to shops and offices. Councils, utilities and government datasets use it to join records about the same property. To find the UPRNs for a list, paste it below: each address is placed on the map and matched to the UPRNs at that spot in Ordnance Survey's Open UPRN data.

Which addresses need a UPRN?

Or paste one address per line

US addresses with a house number and a state or ZIP. Only the address is used for the check.

How the match works

Ordnance Survey's Open UPRN gives a point for every UPRN, but not the address. So each address is placed on the map and the UPRNs nearest that spot are listed, nearest first. When an address is placed on the house itself, the nearest UPRN is very likely its own. When it can only be placed to its street or postcode, the nearest UPRN may be a neighbour's, and the row says so in red.

Flats and shared buildings

Each flat or unit has its own UPRN, often at the same point as the others in the building. The table shows how many UPRNs share the spot, and the download lists every UPRN within 30 metres, nearest first, so you can pick the one you need.

Where the data comes from

UPRNs from Ordnance Survey's Open UPRN (September 2026 release), under the Open Government Licence. Addresses are placed with our own UK address data, and every row shows how sure we are of its location.

A UPRN from this check is a location match, not a match against an address file: confirm any that matter with the council's address records.

FAQs

What is a UPRN?

A Unique Property Reference Number: the permanent ID for every addressable place in Great Britain, used by councils, utilities and government datasets to join records about the same property. It stays the same for the life of the property, even if the address changes.

How do I find the UPRN for an address?

Paste the address above. If it's placed on the house, the UPRN shown is very likely its own. The council can confirm it.

Why are there several UPRNs at one address?

A building with flats or units has a UPRN for each, and often one for the building as a whole. They usually share a point, so the download lists every UPRN within 30 metres, nearest first.

Why is a row marked "Nearby only"?

The address could only be placed to its street or postcode, not the house, so the nearest UPRN may belong to a neighbour. Adding the house number or name usually fixes it.

Does it cover Northern Ireland?

No. Ordnance Survey's open UPRN data covers Great Britain: England, Scotland and Wales.

How many addresses can I check?

Up to 5,000 per list. The first 25 show straight away; enter a work email to check the rest and download the whole file.
