Quick answer
An address is in a conservation area if it falls inside an area the council has designated for its special architectural or historic interest. To check a list, paste it below: each address is placed on the map and checked against the conservation area boundaries published on planning.data.gov.uk, and against the National Heritage List of listed buildings.

Conservation areas remove some permitted development rights, so work that is usually allowed without planning permission can need it there. Demolishing most buildings there needs planning permission, and the council needs six weeks' notice before most work on trees. A listed building needs listed building consent for works that affect its character, inside or out. Installers, builders and agents check this before they quote.
Each row shows the nearest listed buildings within 60 metres, with their grade. A listed building a few metres away is usually the building itself or the one next door. Listed buildings are recorded as points, not outlines, so check the official entry for anything close.
Conservation areas and listed buildings from planning.data.gov.uk, the government's planning data service for England. A few councils haven't published their conservation areas there yet, so confirm with the council before you rely on a 'None'. Addresses are placed with our own UK address data, and every row shows how sure we are of its location.
This is a planning check, not legal advice or the council's answer. Article 4 directions, which remove further permitted development rights, aren't included yet.
Does it cover Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?
Not yet. It covers England, from the government's planning data service.
How do I know if a house is in a conservation area?
Paste the address above and it's checked against the published boundaries. The council's planning department has the definitive answer.
What can't you do in a conservation area?
Some work that is normally permitted development needs planning permission, demolishing most buildings needs permission, and most tree work needs six weeks' notice to the council. The council's guidance has the details for each area.
Does it show listed buildings?
Yes. Each row shows the nearest listed building within 60 metres, its grade and its distance, and the download includes its National Heritage List entry number.
How many addresses can I check?
Up to 5,000 per list. The first 25 show straight away; enter a work email to check the rest and download the whole file.
Do you keep my list?
Your addresses are used to run the check. They aren't shared or sold.
