The FFIEC geocoder looks up one address at a time. Upload your list and get the census tract, county, state, metro area (MSA/MD) and FFIEC tract income level for every address, ready for HMDA and CRA work. Free, no account.
Quick answer
A census tract is a small area of about 4,000 people defined by the US Census Bureau. Its 11-digit GEOID is the 2-digit state code, the 3-digit county code and the 6-digit tract code: the White House is in tract 9800.00 of the District of Columbia, GEOID 11001980000. Its FFIEC income level compares the tract's median family income with its area's: low is under 50%, moderate 50% to under 80%, middle 80% to under 120%, upper 120% or more. Low- and moderate-income (LMI) tracts matter for CRA. To find the tracts for a list of addresses, paste or upload it below.

Tracts are the Census Bureau's 2025 TIGER/Line boundaries, which use the 2020 census tract definitions. Income levels, MSA/MD codes and tract demographics are the FFIEC's 2025 and 2026 census files. Metro areas follow OMB's 2023 delineation. Opportunity Zones are Treasury's designated tracts. Addresses are placed with our own US address data.
This is not the FFIEC geocoder. Check your regulatory obligations, and confirm any row marked "needs checking" before you report it.
Is this the FFIEC geocoder?
No. It returns the same kind of answer (state, county, census tract and metro area for an address) for a whole list at once, from Census Bureau and OMB data.
Which census tract vintage does it use?
The 2020 census tract definitions, from the Census Bureau's 2025 TIGER/Line boundaries.
What are MSA and MD codes?
A metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is a core city and the counties around it. The largest ones are split into metropolitan divisions (MDs). The lookup gives both codes where they apply, from OMB's 2023 delineation.
Does it show tract income levels?
Yes. Each address gets its tract's FFIEC income level for 2026 and 2025 (low, moderate, middle or upper), the tract's median family income as a percentage of the area's, and FFIEC's estimated area median family income for the year.
What is an LMI census tract?
A low- or moderate-income tract: its median family income is under 80% of its area's (low is under 50%). LMI tracts matter for Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) evaluations, and the summary shows what share of your list falls in them.
How many addresses can I check?
Up to 5,000 per list. The first 25 show straight away; enter a work email to check the rest and download the whole file.
Do you keep my list?
Your addresses are used to run the lookup. They aren't shared or sold.
