Find the Front Door, a daily US geography game from InstaMaps

[The classroom page](/games/classroom) has practice by topic and questions to start a lesson. ## How it works 1. 1Read the address and find the building: outlined in yellow, or inside the yellow circle. 2. 2Tap where the main entrance is. Streets, footpaths, parking lots and the way the building faces are your clues. 3. 3Four buildings have a known door, mapped by OpenStreetMap volunteers: you score by how close you got. 4. 4The fifth is a help round: nobody has mapped that door. Your tap is kept, without your name, and you see where other players put it. ## FAQ ### Where do the doors come from? The four scored doors are main entrances mapped by OpenStreetMap volunteers (© OpenStreetMap contributors). The help-round buildings are stores from AllThePlaces, whose doors aren't mapped yet. ### What happens to my tap on the help round? It's kept with the round and a random id for your browser, so one person counts once. No name, no email. When many players agree on a spot, a person at InstaMaps checks it before it goes anywhere near our address data. ### Why does this matter? Because "the address" on most maps is a point in the middle of a roof or a plot. Delivery drivers, field engineers and anyone with a list of stops lose minutes at every one finding the way in. The door is the useful part. ### Why are the photos blurry? They are free, public-domain aerial photos from the USGS National Map, which are sharp enough for roofs, lots and driveways but not for doors themselves. The sharp outlines, paths and house numbers on top come from OpenStreetMap. ### Can I put it on my site or in my newsletter? Yes, free. Copy the embed code or the one-liner above.
